Execution, Annalysis and Extrapolation

Only on a small part of the road network are the traffic volumes determined by means of permanent counting stations. More frequently, there are no current traffic volumes for a road so that short-term counts (one-time or cyclically recurring) are initiated on demand.

Whereas in the past in general manual counts were conducted for just a few hours a day, the “counting behavior” has changed significantly with the establishment of traffic monitoring developed by DTV-Verkehrsconsult. However, all these counts have in common that they are only sample counts. From these, values for the AADT cannot be calculated directly.

DTV-Verkehrsconsult will carry out such surveys and the determination of annual average values and other characteristic values. To this end, we use procedures based on standard time-variation curves.

For junction and cross-section counts, DTV-Verkehrsconsult have their own counting devices for mobile, automated recording. For junction counts, we have video capture systems mounted high at a mast, which enable us to also count junctions with a complex geometry – day and night.

For cross-sectional surveys, we also have our own counting devices of different designs, which are radar-based and can detect traffic on two lanes. The more advanced devices have GSM and GPRS so that a perfect matching and rational operation is possible.

In addition, DTV-Verkehrsconsult is in close contact with several manufacturers, which means that even the use of a large number of mobile devices on loan is no problem. We organize your surveys, taking into account the most economic possibilities and to gather the most broad and valid database possible. We develop comprehensive (and also multi-year) counting concepts according to your requirements.

In general we execution such surveys with our own and supplementary external staff, but if required we also monitor your counting campaigns and accompany your surveys.

The most important part is the high-quality evaluation of such sample counts. Here we use the evaluation program HRDTV-Pro, which is also sold on license base. HRDTV-Pro is a program based on standard time-variation curves used for calculating Annual Average Daily Traffic and other traffic characteristics. It is equally suitable for individual counts as well as for the automatic processing of extensive counting campaigns.

The main feature of HRDTV-Pro is the very flexible evaluation of counts of different durations. It is also suitable for continuous counts with a time gap in-between. In addition to the analysis of the AADT, parameters are calculated for different daily groups (weekdays, holiday and Sundays), average hourly values are determined and the input values for noise calculation (day, night, evening) are derived. To these end we are using several project-specific calendars.

The characteristic values thus determined represent a valid input variable for further calculations. Surveys and evaluations carried out by us have already been recognized in proceedings before various courts, up to the Federal Administrative Cort.
